The Ukrainian side has blocked the supply of eight trains with coal from Debaltsevo, which threatens to disrupt the work of Ukrainian power plants and thermal power plants, said Roman Bilousov, Deputy General Director of the TechNova company.
“I don’t know the reasons why coal supplies are being blocked despite the agreements, but I can say that if they are not unblocked in the very near future, the Kiev, Chernihiv and Sumy regions may be left without heat and electricity,” Bilousov said. According to him, the thermal power plants in these regions have a week's supply of coal left, and there is nothing to replace the coal that was supposed to go through Debaltseva. “Donetsk and Lugansk regions are part of Ukraine, Ukrainian coal is mined there, and therefore I don’t understand the reasons why coal supplies are blocked,” says Belousov. It was previously reported that at a meeting in Moscow on January 13, 2015, representatives of the Russian government and the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy and Coal Mining agreed on the supply of coal to Ukrainian thermal power plants.
As a result of the meeting, Ukraine agreed to purchase coal from Ukrainian mines from territories controlled by illegal armed groups in volumes that local coal mining enterprises can supply. Preliminary – up to 100 thousand tons per month. The parties also agreed to unblock the Debaltsevo junction railway station in the Donetsk region. Currently, about 500 wagons with coal are concentrated on the access roads of this station.
