Middle corridor freight traffic increased by 35% in early 2024

Cargo transportation on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) increased by 35% from January to April, Kazinform reported on May 22 at the meeting of the Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan Railways, Rovshan Rustamov, and the Chairman of the Chinese State Railway Group, Liu Zhenfang.

A train with 61 containers departed from a port in China's Xi'an province via TITR. On May 20, the modernization of the 184-kilometer section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway route, an important part of the TITR, was completed.

On the same day, a cargo train with 20 containers left the Azerbaijani logistics center "Absheron" and headed towards Georgia.

The chairman of "Azerbaijan Railways" emphasized that the resumption of freight transportation on the renovated BTC railway will allow transportation of up to five million tons of cargo annually.

During the same period, the volume of railway transportation between Kazakhstan and China increased by 14% to 10.1 million tons, and exports increased by 21% to 4.5 million tons.

Through the Altynkol-Khorgos border crossing, transportation increased by 8% to 4.2 million tons, and exports by 42% to 1.5 million tons.

At the same time, the Dostyk station reported transshipment of 5.9 million tons of cargo to and from China, which is 18% more than last year. Exports increased by 13% to three million tons.
