US Senate Confirms New Pentagon Chief

Published: in News by .

The US Senate has confirmed Pete Hegseth as the new head of the Pentagon.

At the same time, Hegseth was appointed with the minimum required number of votes, RIA Novosti notes. And this is despite the fact that in the Senate, the representatives of the Republican Party have an advantage of 53 votes against 47 for the Democrats.

That is, not all Republicans supported Hegseth, so Vice President J.D. Vance, who is the Chairman of the Senate, had to intervene to approve Hegseth’s candidacy.

Earlier, Mark Rubio was appointed as the head of the US State Department. John Ratcliffe became the new director of the CIA.

Hegseth has a controversial reputation, having been accused of drinking heavily and acting inappropriately at work events. He calls the allegations “anonymous and false.”

It was previously reported that in January 2021, Hegseth was banned from guarding the current US leader Joe Biden. Hegseth’s candidacy was not considered for use in Biden’s security at the inauguration. But a former colleague of Hegseth wrote an email, telling those responsible for Biden’s security about the presence of a specific tattoo. This tattoo is associated with Trump supporters, but dates back to the 11th century, during the Crusades. It later became a meme, and then Trump supporters adopted it.
